About
Living in New England, one is surrounded by so much beauty which can certainly enhance one’s creative flow. I have spent the majority of the past four and a half decades in souther Maine. After retiring from a career in higher education I started to spend much more time honing the skills needed expand a life long hobby, photography. My educational and professional experiences in theater such as acting, directing, lighting, and set design have all enhance my creative eye as a photographer. One thing that has become quite clear in this first decade of my retirement is that becoming a photographer, the process, the skill development, the creative process….it is all a never-ending journey. Photography as an art form is always evolving, as is one’s own creativity and this I find very exciting…..challenging, exhausting….but yes, exciting.
I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to live in New England, as well as having the opportunities to explore well beyond this region and country. As a photographer I am continually reminded how the natural beauty that surrounds us, while obvious in so many instances, often must be uncovered slowly.
My primary focus has been landscape, seascape and cityscape images with a bit of dabbling in wildlife and occasionally portraits. It is not only the taking of photographs I find so intriguing and rewarding, but also the discoveries one makes in the process. Photography requires continuous searching; visiting and revisiting scenes, determining when the best lighting may occur, or when weather conditions may be optimal, or which seasons may be more suitable. While some situations may present themselves in a relatively timely fashion, it can take years to get that one image you were hoping to get. Wildlife photography is something I had never really considered, but it has become an extremely enjoyable part of what I do. While it can be a challenge to ones patience, the exposure to the natural world’s cycle of life is absolutely priceless, and offers up perspective on our own human condition.
My work has garnered a number of awards, but most importantly it has found it’s way into homes and businesses in over forty states, and twenty-five countries. I have had the joy of meeting so many wonderful people through my work, and look forward to many more encounters as I further explore this world of photography.
